RICHARD MARTINEZ

Richard Martinez was born in Chicago and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has worked as a performer, music director, music producer and composer in New York City since his arrival in 1978. As a composer Martinez is a film and theater composer with credits that include the play "Viva La Vida!" starring Mercedes Ruehl, Sag Harbor, 2006.
In film, he has scored: "Take the Bridge" (Tribeca Film Festival 2007). "Harvest of Redemption" which won Best Foreign Feature at the LA International Family Film Festival. He scored the documentary: "Howard Zinn: You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train," which was on the short list for a 2005 Oscar nomination. He also composed two tangos for the film "Bossa Nova," directed by Brazillian director Bruno Barreto, and he scored "The Daytrippers," produced by Steven Soderbergh, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Slamdance Film Festival. He is currently scoring "The Last Conquistador" for POV directed by John J. Valadez. As Electronic Music Producer, Martinez has worked with celebrated composer Elliot Goldenthal on countless movie scores. One being the Academy award-winning score for "Frida." Other films include: "Across the Universe," "SWAT," "Titus," "In Dreams," "Sphere," "Batman Forever," "Heat," and others. On Broadway, Martinez was Musical Director for "The Green Bird," directed by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor. Off Broadway he was Musical Director and performer for the Theatre for a New Audience production of "Titus Andronicus," and for the Music Theatre Group Production of "The Transposed Heads," both with music by Elliot Goldenthal and directed by Julie Taymor. Other composers he has worked with include John Corigliano, Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Howard Shore, Rachel Portman, Stewart Wallace, Michael Small, Michael Kamon, Michael Gordon, Terence Blanchard and Jason Kao Hwang. He has performed and recorded with Bono, Betty Buckley, Carly Simon, Gregory Hines, Dave Valentin, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Harry Belafonte, and George Russell. |
